This edition of the calendar lists several events marking the 100 year anniversary of the 1906 Atlanta race riot, when racist mobs rampaged through downtown and nearby neighborhoods, murdering and beating Black people, burning their homes and businesses. A very dedicated coalition of historians, community activists and cultural workers have planned a number of educational and artistic programs designed to uncover this hidden history, beginning Thursday, Sept. 21 and ending Sunday, Sept. 24.
The struggle against racism and all forms of discrimination and bigotry is central to the political program of the IAC. We strongly urge your attendance and participation in these remembrance events.
